Junior Success

Seb Rey and Ben Cronin were part of the 4 boy Oxon team that won their division at County Cup over the recent bank holiday. The coach, Ash Taylor, said that they were amazing, they have never had an Oxon team at any year group get promoted to the 2nd division. They were up against N Scotland, Cambridge and Hertfordshire.

AGM Reminder

A reminder that the AGM will take place at the King Alfred’s School Centre Site Training and Conference centre this Wednesday, start time 7:30pm. How to get there: if you are approaching from the Newbury Street/Royal Oak end of Portway, there is a turning into the KA car park on the right, just before the Pelican Crossing traffic lights at the school. It is not too obvious if you do not know that it is there. Drive into the main parking area and you will be directed to the meeting room.

It is important that as many members attend as possible because there are some rule changes proposed (as I hope that you know). We shall also be holding an election for the 2008-2009 committee, for the first time in my memory at least. The plan is to serve the refreshments whist the votes are being counted.

I set out below a provisional Agenda.

Mixed A Team News

Congratulatios to the Mixed A Team in coming a very creditable second in their league - just one point from top position!

National Junior Club League 2008

Wantage Tennis club entered 4 teams into this summer’s NJCL, the results are as follows.

 Girls U14: Played 3 Won 1 Lost 2 with 2 walkovers. They finished 3^rd in the League. 4 girls played in total.

 Boys U14: Played 4 Won 1 lost 3, Finished 2^nd.  5 boys played.

 Boys U16: Played 4 Won 1 Lost 3 with 1 walkover. Finished 5^th. 3 boys played.

 Boys U18: Played 2 Won 1 Lost 1, Finished 2^nd. 2 boys played.

 Overall this year’s competition was well run as I had the very welcome support of various parents who ran the teams and organised the fixtures. The results were not as I had hoped but it seemed that the opposition had played some higher rated children than we were able to.

 The children enjoyed the experience of competition and are looking forward to 2009, where, I hope to enter more teams especially in the girl’s leagues.
